Club Summer party, July 15, 2023

Well, it was supposed to have been a garden party, wandering around David and Sue Rossell’s finely manicured lawns admiring the flowerbeds with a glass of something delicious in your hand.

This being England, the heavens opened early that day and it rained non-stop until mid afternoon.

Gazebos, chairs and tables were abandoned, and we repaired to the interior of their house.

The theme of the day was Viva Espania and Sue and Brian and Ruth Wiseman had laid on an impressive array of Tapas: cheeses and cold meats to accompany an introductory Cava from Cordoniu, Spain’s longest standing producer of fizz.

Cold salmon and accompanying salads were accompanied by Bienbebido Pulpo Alberino from Valles de Sadacia, a little known area of the Rioja region and a Majestic’s winemaker series Godello from Montrerrei.

Sue had made a splendid Paella of spicey chicken and chorizo, Brian and Ruth a plate of rare cold beef to accompany three reds: a Bodegas Bardos Ribera del Duero, known for its robust and deeply fruity wines, The Guv’nor made from a selection of Tempranillo grapes from their favourite vineyards across Spain and a Rioja Crianza specially imported by the Rossells from their friendly producer, Bodegas Puelles in Haro.

20 members attended the party and we celebrated the club’s summer gathering in style.

Our thanks are due to David and Sue Rossell for hosting and catering and to Brian and Ruth Wiseman for catering.
